BURANO-LIFE ON A CANAL We visited this quaint fishing town while in Venice, Italy. The town was very quiet, not many tourist. We arrived in Burano late in the afternoon so by the time we got there the little stores were starting to close up.
Burano is an island in the northern part of the Venetian Lagoon, known for it’s colorful houses, fishing and lace work. We learned that during the day the women will sit outside, socializing with their neighbors while working on their lace pieces. Strolling through the town you will be sure to see the famous leaning bell tower (campanile) of The Church of San Martino. Since we missed out on some great food and shopping, we have definitely put Burano on our return list. We did however see a magnificent sunset!
