Description
Maine-View From Cadillac Mountain was captured during a recent trip to ACADIA NATIONAL PARK, Mount Desert Island, Maine, from the top of the mountain. Cadillac Mountain is 1530 feet high. It is one of 20 mountains that were formed from the earth's tectonic and volcanic forces millions of years ago. The mountains height was cut short as a result of giant glaciers moving across the land and out to sea as far as 400 miles. The last glacier impact to this area was 18,000 years ago. Cadillac Mountain was originally named Green Mountain. In 1918 is was renamed after Frenchman, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac, who given ownership of the land in 1688.
